Shame Series Images

I think that parents sometimes think that validating feelings may lead to a child who is over-emotional, but it’s actually the opposite. Of course, some children are just born with a lot of feelings! Play therapy is always going to be so helpful to provide children with a shame-free space to express feelings so that they feel calmer in general outside of the play room!

Please excuse the water stains in the image below… actually, this is a great side point… I try to model acceptance of imperfection in the play room at all times. Perfectionism can ultimately contribute to so many mental health issues later in life, so it is always one of my goals as a play therapist to show children that I am an imperfect human and still deserving of love and connection… just as they are : )
