Here's a Little Halloween Trick for Parents!

These types of playful and connecting activities are the foundation of co-regulation…bringing the calm to your child and activating those amazing mirror neurons.

Say this in a calm steady voice and do the motions with your child!

  • I am grounded like a big orange pumpkin.  I can crouch down and put my arms around my knees and make a big solid ball.  No one can move me I am so big and so solid.

  • I grow green vines stretching outwards.  I can reach my hands out away from my body and up towards the sky.

  • I soak in the sunlight with my hands and my face.  I can stretch my neck up and look towards the sky.

  • The leaves of my vines wave gently in the cool fall breeze.  I can wave my hands.

  • My leaves breathe in and out and get the nutrients I need from the air.  I can breathe in while I count to four, I can hold my breath while I count to four, and I can breathe out while I count to four.

  • I remind myself that I am a safe and loved big orange pumpkin.
